Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center is proud to be a member of Spirit of Women, a network of more than 75+ premier hospitals and health systems nationwide dedicated to educating women about their health and the health of their loved ones. Brookhaven offers a wide variety of Spirit of Women programs including educational programs, community wellness events, membership programs, health fairs, and other creative outreach events to the women of our community. Free Education and Support Group
Developed to address issues for those who have been diagnosed with stroke, TIA, carotid disease, heart attack, angina, heart disease, heart surgery, peripheral vascular disease, claudication, and other disorders that affect the blood vessels, arteries or veins. Families and caregivers are always welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Meetings are held the third Wednesday of every month, but will not meet during the month of December.
A support group for men and women who wish to recover/refrain from drinking and its associated problems. Call -669-1124
Meets: Every Friday, and Saturday
Time: Fridays:8:00 p.m.- 9:30 p.m. (only open to people in recovery)
Saturday from 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (open to the general public)

Brookhaven's Hospice program offers a bereavement support group for parents and grandparents who have lost a child. The 8-week support group is open to all in the community, free of charge and is facilitated by a licensed certified Social Worker.
Registration is required.
New session starts Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
And will take place at the Hospice Office, 105 West Main Street, Patchogue.

Steps to a Healthier You! Mall Walking Club
Meeting each weekday morning at 8 a.m., free to join, free to walk!
Featuring free monthly screenings offered the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 9 a.m. in the courtyard of the mall. Screenings will address different health and disease concerns, such as blood pressure, Body Fat Analysis, BMI and review of personalized risk factors for many diseases.

Diabetes Self Management Classes:
4 two-hour sessions to educate those diagnosed with diabetes on ways to help manage their disease. Topics include the following: Diabetes Overview, Nutrition, Activity and Foot Care Monitoring, Medications, Complications and Sick Days, and Miscellaneous Topics Each participant will have a pre and post class individual assessment with a registered nurse and a registered dietician who are Certified Diabetes Educators. Diabetes Club
For those people with Diabetes, this group offers education and support about the disease and its treatments. This is offered at no cost to the community. Family members are welcome. For more information or to be placed on the mailing list please call 631- 654-7778

This is a program offered by The American Cancer Society in conjunction with the Personal Care Products Council and the National Cosmetology Association. This program is provided free of charge to women undergoing treatment for cancer. The program teaches beauty techniques, which help combat the appearance, related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. Participants will receive a personal cosmetic kit worth $250.00. Pre-registration is required.

A Support Group to enhance the quality of life for individuals with Parkinson's disease and their family or caregivers,
Meets: Third Friday of every month.

Education and support for family members and caregivers of individuals on dialysis provided by a licensed clinical social worker. Information and support includes counseling on topics such as entitlement and community resources, transportation and travel.
