Family Medicine
The Family Medicine Center at Brookhaven is located at 100 Hospital Road, directly across from the main Hospital. The clinical staff at the Family Medicine Center provides a wide range of services dedicated to meeting the health care needs of families - from adolescents to adults. The Family Medical Center is also the home base for Brookhaven's Family Medicine Residency Program, whose resident physicians see patients at the Center under the guidance and supervision of staff physicians.
Each time you visit the Family Medicine Center, you will be seen by one of the medical residents. This resident will be your main physician and will be working side by side with a supervising attending physician. An attending physician is a physician who has completed a residency and practices medicine and can supervise fellows, residents and medical students. Attending physicians have final responsibility, legally and otherwise, for patient care, even when many of the minute-to-minute decisions are being made by subordinate physician assistants, resident physicians, and medical students.
