The Pastoral Care Department is committed to providing for our patients during their stay at our hospital by recognizing the patient as a whole individual with psychological, social, physical and spiritual needs.
The Pastoral Care Department aims to:
- Identify the spiritual needs of our patients
- Providie patients with access to spiritual support
- Provide spiritual education for all patients who wish it
- Manage the human resources of our community (clergy, pastoral care volunteers, Eucharistic Ministers) to best serve the spiritual needs of our patients
The Chapel is located on the first floor, on the main corridor and is open to patients and visitors of all faiths seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The Pastoral Care Office is located next to the Chapel.
Clergy of all faiths visit the hospital. There is a list of community clergy at the Reception Desk as well as in the Pastoral Care Office who have registered with the hospital and have agreed to visit with our patients. Patients may receive a visit from the clergy by:
- Calling the Office of Pastoral Care at 631-654-7258, Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., or
- Calling the Hospital Operator at 631-654-7100, or
- Communicating to the Floor Nurse, Pastoral Care Volunteer or Eucharistic Minister, your desire to see a member of the clergy
Scheduled Services
All services are held in the Chapel and broadcast on Channel 3 of patient television sets via the hospital's closed-circuit television system.

Interdenominational - Services are held each Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the Hospital Chapel.
Episcopal - Holy Communion is distributed to all Episcopalian patients by request.
Jewish - Jewish services are scheduled in the Chapel on appropriate occasions and by request. A Rabbi visits with all Jewish patients each week and is also available by request.
Roman Catholic - Eucharistic Ministers distribute Holy Communion to all Roman Catholic patients wishing to receive on Monday - Saturday. Communion is also distributed at other times by the Roman Catholic Chaplains on duty.
The Roman Catholic Chaplain is available to give spiritual support to patients and/or their families during his rounds. Roman Catholic Priests visit with patients in the Intensive Care Units and any other Roman Catholic patients upon request to distribute the Sacrament of the Sick. They are also on emergency call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The call list for emergencies is located in the Pastoral Care Office, the Switchboard Room and the Reception Desk in the Main Lobby.
Pastoral Care Volunteers
Members of the community who have completed a Pastoral Care Volunteer Training Program may visit patients for prayer and spiritual support. They are also used as a resource for identifying the spiritual needs of our patients, and communicating these needs to the Pastoral Care Department. Patients who wish to be visited by a Pastoral Care Volunteer may call the office of Pastoral Care at 631-654-7258 or communicate their desire to the Floor Nurse.
