Planned Gifts Through Wills
A majority of our nation's citizens leave no will when they die. By failing to prepare valid wills, they empower the state with the privilege of distributing what was rightfully theirs.
A will is a powerful instrument. It permits an individual to:
- Specify which of their assets is to be distributed and to whom
- Direct when those distributions will be made
- Choose the individual or institution to carry out their wishes
- Select a guardian for minor children and incapacitated or incompetent family members
- Preserve as much of the estate as possible through the judicious use of saving devices and opportunities
Donors are encouraged to include the hospital in their wills. Gifts can be designated for the support of Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center or to establish an endowment that will perpetuate provision of service of interest to the donor.
Naming opportunities that memorialize or honor individuals can be specified as part of a donor's will and the hospital will arrange for appropriate recognition of the parties as indicated by the donor.

The John H. White, Esq. Society
In providing for loved ones, those drawing up wills or planning retirement or other long term financial decisions may wish to consider support for Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center through their estate or other planned giving vehicles. As part of your long-range financial planning, the Development Office is available to develop a detailed analysis and arrangement of your financial resources to ensure maximum income and tax benefits during your lifetime and for your designated heirs and other beneficiaries upon your death. This is a way to leave a lasting legacy while furthering the mission and life-saving work of the Medical Center. Your generosity will provide the much needed resources that will perpetuate our state-of-the-art facilities along with innovative patient care programs. Planned gifts of $25,000 or more qualify the donor for special recognition through the John F. White, Esq. Society.
